From here it is only 18km to the resort town of Viareggio with its fine sandy
beaches, 25km to the world famous city of Pisa with its Leaning Tower, and
at an hours drive away you can find the Renaissance wonders of Florence itself.
This location is perfect for exploring the delights of Tuscany. Lucca itself
is a gem of a place, surrounded by 12 metre high walls that encircle the old
city. Lucca has much to entice you, from strolling around the walls, exploring
the winding alleys, visiting the numerous churches, to sampling some of the
fine local foods and wines.

The area is rich in wildlife, and, to the north of Lucca, only a short drive away, is the Garfagnana with its soaring mountains wrapped in lush forests, dotted with idyllic villages little changed over the years.
