Turenum View – a holiday apartment for rent in Puglia, Italy

A holiday apartment for rent in Puglia, Terenum View

Turenum View is a holiday apartment for rent in Trani, Puglia, Italy. Recently renovated and refurbished, it has all the modern comforts and superb views of the port and the cathedral.

As soon as you enter the apartment, you are drawn to the balcony and the superb view over cathedral, old town and port - this is one of a handful of properties with this view. It's tempting to spend your whole vacation here, with the cooling breeze taking the edge off the sun. The kitchen, with floor to ceiling windows, has a sea view too.

Two double bedrooms overlook the cobbled street of Via Ognissanti. There are two bathrooms, one with shower, laundry, living room with corner sofa (folding out to a double and single bed). The kitchen has breakfast bar and dining table. The roof terrace offers stunning views of the city.

On arrival you'll find a complimentary bottle of the local Trani olive oil, much prized, a bottle of the primitivo red wine and Moscati di Trani dessert wine, some taralli (crunchy bread rings made only in Puglia), and discount vouchers to buy more from local shops. There is local information, including restaurants recommended by the owners (they have very demanding tastes!). Note that the apartment is three floors up, with no lift/elevator. Small pets are allowed, though please ask first.

Trani itself dates from the eighth century (or before). A port to rival Venice and Amalfi in the Middle Ages, it was from here that the Knights Templar set off on the Crusades. This is a town of art and architecture, with the famed Cathedral of Trani having many treasures. The old town has cobbled streets, and there is the Castello di Svevo.

Today, this jewel of the Adriatic is famed for grapes, seafood, wine and marble. Trani is surrounded by many historical, cultural and natural places to be visited, among these, special attention must be paid to Castel del Monte. The castle was built during the reign of Federico II in the 11th Century, in a series of octagons. This majestic structure, perfectly intact, remains a mystery to historians and architects alike. It is now Unesco World Heritage. The Castel del Monte is on the Italian euro cent coin.

And the town is a delight. Imagine your day...

The early riser of your group goes to the famous Principe pastry shop and buys a cornetto crema amarena (a speciality of this area – you won’t find anything like it anywhere else in Italy – a custard and cherry jam croissant). Upon the early riser’s return to the apartment, the rest of the guests are sitting out on the balcony enjoying the lovely morning seabreeze and the view over the porto of Trani as the fishing boats below unload their wares. There could be no better way to start the day.

While each guest gets ready, a couple of you slip down to the port, or to the Mercato del pesce which is just around the corner, where you can find fresh fish, calamari (squid), sea urchins (with their flavoursome stripes, to be scooped out with a spoon), mussels, oysters, clams. You buy a kilo and a half of cozze (mussels) and some small cherry tomatoes.
